A large proportion of the population suffer from disorders of blood vessels. These range in size from small telangiectasias (small thread veins, spider naevi) to larger Port Wine Stains.
How does the treatment work?
A thread vein is a small blood vessel near the surface of the skin. Blood contains haemoglobin that attracts and absorbs the light and converts it into heat. This heat permanently destroys the protein in the wall of the thread vein. As a result the veins will gradually, and safely, disappear after treatment.
Which thread veins can be treated?
Thread veins on all parts of your face and body can be treated. As the treatment relies on absorption of light by the haemoglobin in the blood, the most effective results are seen with light skin. The lighter the skin, the more pronounced the contrast between the vessel and the skin, making treatment easier. However, Ellipse has pre-programmed settings for different skin colours that deliver the correct energy output for your complexion.
How long does the treatment take?
A single session typically lasts 10-20 minutes.
Does it hurt?
The treatment sensation varies from area to area and from client to client. The sensation that is felt depends upon the amount and size of vessels in the area. It can be described as a hot, sharp sensation, some clients liken it to mild sunburn after the treatment. You may find it comforting to cool the skin after the treatment with 100% pure Aloe Vera Gel.
What can I expect?
Immediately after treatment there may be some slight redness in the skin which will disappear in 1-2 hours or in some cases a few days. There may also be some slight swelling which may last unto 4 days, these are all signs of inflammation and are an indication of a successful treatment. The results you will see are removal of the thread veins or a decreased size of the thread veins.
How many treatments are needed for best results?
The number of treatments depends on the severity of the thread vein. Clinical studies have confirmed that 1-4 treatments usually are needed, and these are timed about one month apart.
Do I need to take special precautions before and after treatment?
You must refrain from smoking 4 hours prior to your treatment and stop taking anti-inflammatories 7 days before your treatment. It is important to avoid hair removal such as waxing etc. avoid tanning (sun, solarium or self-tanning cream) 30-60 days before and during the treatment period. Tanned skin will absorb more light which will make the treatment more painful and will put you at risk of burning. People with sensitive skin may benefit from using 100% pure Aloe Vera Gel for a few days after treatment. We recommend you limit sun exposure and use a sunscreen (SPF 60) for a few weeks following treatment.
